The Farm: Cattle and Horses
The main activities of our farm are semi-freerange cattle and horse breeding, on the wide pastures of our farm.
The cattle is the renowned Chianina breed: one of the most ancient breeds, raised for over 22 centuries in Umbria. Along with the Marchigiana, the Maremmana, Romagnola and Podolica, the Chianina is one of the five indigenous breeds of Italian cattle. The three breeds raised in central Italy (Romagnola, Marchigiana and Chianina) also have a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI; in Italian: IGP--Indicazione Geografica Protetta).
The meat is well known for its quality, taste and nutritional value: this is the meat for a proper "bistecca Fiorentina". All of our cattle are raised according to the standards of the IGP mark of the C.C.B.I. consortium and are registered in the herd book held by A.N.A.B.I.C. (http://www.anabic.it).
We also raise Italian Rapid Heavy Draft Farm Horses (Cavallo Agricolo Italiano da Tiro Pesante Rapido, aka CAITPR or simply TPR); all horses are registered in the stud book of the official Italian breeder's association (ANACAITPR, http://www.anacaitpr.it)
